- Chinese Embroidered Silk Altar Frontal
Embroidery
and quilting on silk with couched and embroidered silver
colored metal thread showing dragon and peonies, with
squirrels in border areas. The embroidery appears to
have been made for a Daoist shrine in the "Pine
Mountain" area according to the inscription. The
embroidery is in good condition. Several loose threads
have been restored and some of the beads have been replaced.
This is an example of a Peranakan embroidery, made for
the Straits Chinese of Penang, Singapore or Malacca,
for festive occasions.
