Eight-Panel Coromandel Lacquer Screen
Description: Exceptional Coromandel screen,
elaborately decorated eight-panel black alcquer with extensive gold and
polichrome colors, depicting a continuous landscape scene with formal gardens,
pavillions, terraced gardens, with personages at various leisure activities,
bordered by stylized dragon motifs, above panels filled with "archaic" bronze
form vessels. On the back, restrained design of lake scene with aquatic flowers
and exotic birds. Design is carved into the lacquer and then filed with colored,
gilt paste. 19th/20th century.
