5068 - Chinese Fahua Style Vase
Very
decorative Chinese double gourd vase in Fahua style,
apocryphal Jiajing (1522-1566) reign mark and probably
dating from the earlier part of the 20th century. Scene
of Mandarin ducks among lotus. Fine condition.
Fahua refers
to the wares with bold decoration in deep blue, tuquoise,
green or yellow and white alkaline glazes. The motifs
are first outlined by raised trails of white slip which
separates the colors and prevents them from running
much like the cloisons in cloisonne -
fahua wares are often regarded as ceramic version of
cloisonne.
