- Chinese Fahua Style Meiping Vase
Very
decorative Chinese vase of Meiping shape in Fahua style,
with apocryphal Jiajing (1522-1566) reign mark, decorated
with pairs of Mandarin ducks among lotus and above wave
motifs. Probably earlier part 20th century.
Fahua refers to the wares with bold decoration in deep
blue, tuquoise, green or yellow and white alkaline glazes.
The motifs are first outlined by raised trails of white
slip which separates the colors and prevents them from
running much like the cloisons in cloisonne - fahua
wares are often regarded as ceramic version of cloisonne.
Copper was the metallic oxide used for the turquoise
color.
