5074 - Japanese Lacquer Display Stand
Japanese display or sutra stand, a refined
piece, elevated on shaped scrolls, in colors of persimmon
red, light black and dark beige, using an exceptional
technique of applying various colors in drips and patches,
together with tiny crushed pieces of mother-of-pearl
- resulting in a mosaic effect. The piece appears to
have been made for an establishment and bears an inscription
on the base. Condition is good except for a very small
area where lacquer has rubbed off, and a horizontal
non-separating fissure on the ends of the short side
(see photo). The stand appears to date from the Taisho
period (1912-1926).
Measurements: H 3", L 19",
W 12".
Price:
$ 735.
