- A Pair of Nepalese Bronze Guardian Lions
In Nepal, the lion symbolizes power, courage, and majesty.
This is an incredibly crafted pair of Nepalese temple
lions, with extraordinary workmanship, unusually large
size, and age. The lions are shown in full body armour
together with helmets, in which the detailed decoration
shown is in raised, pierced, and stamped fashion. The
beasts stand foursquare, are with upturned tails, and
have ceramic eyes. The heads are separable from the
bodies. Similar lions were placed at the entrance of
temples to ward off evil. This pair is ready to defend
and offer you protection, whether it be at your home
or elsewhere.
Provenance:
Acquired some 60 years ago. The lions could date back
to the early part of the 20th century.
Measurements:
27" high.
Price:
$27,000
