5120 - THAI BRONZE SEATED BUDDHA

Large Buddha statue with " calling the earth to witness" (bhumisparsa) mudra; with downcast eyes, arched eyebrows, smiling, full fleshed face, and the mouth influenced by Khmer features often seen in early Uthong images; the curled hairdress with ushnisha.

This appears to be a later rendition of a Uthong style Buddha.

Repairs appear to have been made to the neck.

Provenance: Acquired in the early 1960's.

Measurements: 19 1/4" high; 13 3/4" at widest point; weight: 20.2 lbs.
